3D is currently seeking a new Director to carry on the organization´s work promoting collaboration amongst trade, development and human rights professionals and ensuring that trade rules are developed and applied in ways that support an equitable economy. The closing date for applications has been extended to 8 December, 2008.

3D organized a panel discussion during the WTO Public Forum: On 24 September, in Geneva, the panel entitled ‘Defining People-Centred and Development-Oriented Trade Policy - Can a Human Rights Approach Help?’ brought together UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Olivier de Schutter; law Professor and long-time expert on trade and human rights, Rob Howse; Ambassador Angélica Navarro Llanos of Bolivia and Ibrahim Salama, formerly member of the Working Group on the Right to Development. Panel Discussion on Access to Knowledge (A2K) and Human Rights: On 8 September, 3D held a panel discussion on A2K and human rights, as part of the A2K3 Conference, in Geneva. The panel explored how limiting access to knowledge through intellectual property laws can negatively impact human rights. Speakers described how human rights can support A2K goals.

3D calls on Working Group on the Right to Development to consider the WIPO Development Agenda: In a presentation on 18 August, 3D described the WIPO Development Agenda to members of the Working Group and encouraged its High-Level Task Force to assess the work of WIPO’s Committee on Development and Intellectual Property against the criteria it has developed for evaluating global development partnerships from a right to development perspective.
