UN Human Rights Treaty Body Work: IP rules, Access to Medicines and Human Rights

3D's Treaty Body work brings country-specific information to the UN human rights treaty supervisory bodies so that they can raise trade-related issues of human rights concern with State representatives. The treaty body recommendations on these trade-related issues are useful tools for groups and individuals advocating for a more equitable international trading system.

We have prepared country briefing notes for treaty body members on trade-related intellectual property rules, access to medicines and human rights in Botswana, Denmark & Italy (EU), Ecuador, El Salvador, Morocco, the Philippines, Thailand and Uganda.

Following 3D's submissions, the treaty bodies adopted concluding observations expressing their concern about lack of access to medicines. The Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights recommended that States should conduct assessments of how new trade and intellectual property rules will impact access to affordable medicines.
Donwload a compilation of Treaty Body recommendations for 2004-2006 relating to intellectual property, access to medicines and human rights in the following countries: Botswana, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand and Uganda

We are developing this section of our Web site. If you want more information on our work in the area of access to medicines, please contact us at info@3dthree.org

The Practical Guide elaborated by 3D in collaboration with FORUM-ASIA was published on Human Rights Day - 10th December 2004. 3D will publish an up-dated Spanish Edition of the Practical Guide in the Spring of 2006.
