The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food, Olivier De Schutter, has issued a press release and a briefing note on the human rights challenges of large-scale land acquisitions or leases.

GRAIN’s Food Crisis and the Global Land Grab site provides an open, up-to-date and easy to search library of over 800 articles, interviews and reports on farm land grabs around the world published since the outbreak of the food crisis in 2008.

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) are doing extensive research on international investment in agricultural land and have recently published Land grab or development opportunity? Agricultural investment and international land deals in Africa
The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) has recently published A Thirst For Distant Lands: foreign investment in agricultural land and water, a paper which analyses the linkages between domestic law, international investment contracts and international investment treaties governing large-scale land acquisitions.
FIAN (FoodFirst Information and Action Network) is conducting field case studies in Kenya, Mozambique and Mali in order to document concrete cases in which the right to food and related rights of local communities are threatened or violated due to large-scale land acquisition projects.
The International Land Coalition’s (ILC’s) Commercial Pressures on Land initiative includes an annotated bibliography of documents coming from a number of relevant civil society organizations, intergovernmental organizations and research institutes addressing the issue, a case studies database and a collection of relevant press articles coming from the international media, as well as information about the ILC’s collaborative research project on Commercial Pressures on Land.
